What is the Ontario Fertility Program?
The Ontario Fertility Program is a government initiative that helps eligible patients cover the costs of fertility treatments.
This funding covers:
- One IVF cycle per person (under the age of 4)
- Unlimited IUI cycles
- One fertility preservation cycle (when medically necessary)
Funds are paid directly to participating fertility clinics — including Tripod Fertility — to help reduce your upfront costs.
What’s Covered
In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
- Fertilization of eggs in a lab, followed by embryo transfer(s)
- Eligibility: Under 43 years of age
- Limit: One funded IVF cycle per person (plus one more if acting as a surrogate)
Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI)
- Sperm is placed directly into the uterus
- Eligibility: You have a valid OHIP card
- Limit: No limit on the number of funded IUI cycles, and no age restriction
Fertility Preservation
- Freezing eggs or sperm ahead of medical treatments that may affect infertility
- Eligibility: Medical indication required
- Limit: One funded cycle per person
What’s Not Covered
While the funding helps with treatment, it doesn’t cover everything.
Here are a few things to budget for:
- Medication costs (IVF meds can be $5000–$8000; natural IVF can be $600-$1000)
- Genetic testing, if recommended (~$3K per IVF)
- Storage fees for eggs, embryos, or sperm (~$600/year)
We’ll walk through these costs openly—no surprises.
